Hello again, Indianapolis! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Indianapolis Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Indianapolis Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Indianapolis long term. So if you’re interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.
First, today’s weather:
Some sun, then clouds; chilly. High: 42 Low: 29.
Here are the top three stories today in Indianapolis:
- A portion of Market Street will be closed today, Mar. 28, due to a planned larger reconstruction project. According to the City’s Department of Public Works, West Market Street is shut down from Illinois Street to Monument Circle for roadway repairs and the improvement of the sidewalks, ramps, and crosswalks for ADA compliance. The westbound lane will remain open to traffic. The two eastern lanes of Illinois Street will also be restricted near the intersection with Market Street. (WISH TV Indianapolis, IN)
- This weekend, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department hosted a workshop to help recruit more female officers to the department. While IMPD’s current classes are approximately 14 percent women, Indianapolis is working toward the national “30 by 30” initiative, which aims to have women make up 30 percent of recruit classes by 2030. “We’re about 200 officers shy of really where we’d like to be, so we’re just trying to get the best qualified people to come out,” said Chief Randal Taylor. - The Spring 2022 xZooberance celebration has officially begun at the Indianapolis Zoo! This four-week event is happening at the Zoo from 12 to 4 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays until Apr. 17. Guests can enjoy a variety of music entertainment acts on two stages, as well as a special chef-prepared menu and craft beverages.
