Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- On Tuesday morning, a pedestrian was killed in an interstate crash. The incident occurred around 6:30am on Interstate 440 East near the Interstate 40 interchange in southeast Raleigh. Fire and emergency crews responded to the incident, but were unable to locate the victim at first, and as of 8:00am the pedestrian had been located and the investigation was underway. The driver stayed on the scene and is unlikely to face charges. (CBS17)
- Two shooting victims sought help on Monday night in an incident police say was connected. The incident occurred around 9:30pm on Lake Woodard Drive, and one man went to a Speedway Gas Station for help, with the other found in a car off Tournament Drive. Both men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (WRAL)
- Student activists from Cary High School’s Idea Club are pushing back on the efforts to ban books. After a challenge from parents, the Wake County school board panel voted to keep “Lawn Boy” in the school’s library, and several students are fighting to ensure that other books about racism and LGBTQ issues remain. The students have spoken at recent school board meetings to ensure that young voices are heard on the challenges. (Spectrum News 1)
- A home development known as “King’s Ridge,” will break ground soon. The project will offer apartments for homeless individuals in a new approach to affordable and stable housing. The complex will be a $13.7 million investment, providing 100 apartments serving single adults and families. (WRAL)
- McDonald’s newest commercial features Shaw University and the Platinum Sound Marching Band. The commercial highlights a proud legacy for the oldest Historically Black College and University in the South, and the fast food giant also gifted the university with a $100,000 donation. (abc11)
