Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Phoenix’s summer heat response plan includes prioritizing assistance for the homeless and hikers in the area. The Phoenix City Council’s recently approved heat response plan for this summer includes opening a new homeless shelter at 28th and Washington streets. The plan also addresses the distribution of signs that will direct hikers and those working outside to publicly accessible cooled spaces and drinking water. (KJZZ)
- Phoenix firefighters were able to put out a blaze at a restaurant in Phoenix’s Uptown neighborhood Thursday without any injuries. However, the fire did disrupt traffic around the restaurant, Dick’s Hideaway, in the Sunbrite Corner plaza at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road. Investigators are still working to find out what caused the fire. Traffic was restricted for several hours. (KTAR.com)
- Two men and two women were shot in the area of 67th Avenue and Thomas Road on Wednesday. When police arrived at the scene, multiple vehicles and victims had scattered to different locations. Thankfully, all are expected to survive. Police are still investigating the incident and there are no reports of suspects yet. (Phoenix Patch)
