As the Austin metro area continues to grow, so does the list of awesome places for families to get out and explore! Today, we’re sharing some terrific places to check out in South Austin, thanks to our Do512 Family Field Expert Cynthia Rodriguez, who happens to run a great bilingual Instagram account for local families, Austin Adventure Kids.
Here are Cynthia’s Five Favorite Things in South Austin:
— Meanwhile Brewing
Meanwhile Beer is one of our favorite south Austin spots. This southeast Austin brewery is very family friendly with a vast outdoor space that has a playground and soccer field. Aside from beer, the brewery also has a selection of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There are various food trucks on -site, including one that sells ice cream.
— Madrone Coffee
Madrone Coffee is located in the historic “Old Rock Store” in Oak Hill. The interior is beautiful and they have a spacious outdoor area with a playscape. There is a taco truck on-site and on weekends, there is also live-music. It’s a fun spot to have a slow morning while the kids run around!
— Reverie Books
Reverie Books is a charming little bookstore that has a great book selection, a kids corner and also a small selection of toys/gifts. We love that it is in the same shopping center as Captain Quackenbush Bakery, so it’s easy to grab a treat and a book all in one stop.
— Dove Springs District Park
This amazing park is located in southeast Austin and has something for everyone—even parents! There are a couple of nature-inspired playscapes, including one that is tree-house themed. My kids love this park because there is also a fun zipline that adds an extra element of adventure. The park also has a walking trail, exercise equipment near the playground, a pavilion, baseball fields, and much more.
— Circle C Metro Park
Circle C Metro Park is a beautiful park in southwest Austin that offers a lot of opportunities for nature. The playground is shaded by a canopy of trees and has musical play equipment, diggers, and other fun play structures for different age groups. There is also a basketball court, disc golf course and walking trails.
