Prairie Elementary Holds Assembly to Celebrate Disc Golf Course

Prairie Elementary School held a reopening ceremony for its disc golf course for its students on Friday, May 20.
The school welcomed several members of Dynamic Discs, who worked to educate students on the rapidly growing sport.
Chuck Ahrens and Dynamic Discs originally implemented and installed the disc golf course at Prairie Elementary School in 2019, but their plan to teach students how to properly use the equipment was stalled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a league certified, professionally designed course. Chuck and his group were able to provide us with a great discount on equipment, and (then) Mayor Foster donated the sign out front,” Prairie Elementary Principal Deborah McLaren said, following the assembly. “We’re trying to re-energize the school, as well as the community by re-implementing the course. We’re finally able to take this project off the back burner.”
Two disc golf competitors, 16-year-old Tyler Ahrens and 14-year-old Carter Ahrens, attended the event with Dynamic Discs to hopefully inspire the next generation of disc golf athletes.
The brothers have each set various world records in the sport. Carter Ahrens set the record for being the youngest player to win a B-tier or above Professional Disc Golf Association sanctioned tournament when he was just 14 years old.
“Through disc golf, these kids can learn character development and how to be the best you,” Tyler Ahrens, who competed for team USA at the World Flying Disc Federation World Championships, said. “You learn how to set goals and push yourself beyond personal limits.”
