As autumn’s crisp weather creeps in, Lehigh Valley outdoor activities such as biking the Ironton and Saucon rail trails and hiking at Jacobsburg state park become more pleasant, nature-filled experiences and less strenuous, sweaty productions.
If you’re looking to take advantage of the falling temperatures, you also could take a spin at one of the many area disc golf courses, including those at Lehigh Parkway in Allentown, Jordan Creek Parkway in Whitehall Township, Covered Bridge Park in South Whitehall Township, South Mountain Park in Bethlehem and Upper Macungie Park.
For those who are unfamiliar with the sport, it is played much like traditional golf, but instead of hitting small balls with clubs, players throw flying discs (think Frisbees) into a series of metal baskets.
To help you with the sport’s needs, Discinsanity opened Aug. 23 at 528 N. 19th St. (former Jewelers space) in Allentown’s West End Theatre District.
Owner Jeff Cope, who lives about six blocks from the store, has been playing disc golf for more than 10 years and is excited to offer a “one-stop shop for the Lehigh Valley’s growing group of disc golf players.”
“The belief that everyone buys online is not really relevant to this,” Cope said. “The No. 1 response I hear from people looking to buy a disc is that they want to be able to see it in person because what they see on a website rarely looks the same as what’s delivered to their door.”
