There are plenty of reasons to visit Lake Tahoe, and the fall season there doesn’t disappoint. A blend of summer and winter activities, plus highly desirable weather, make Tahoe a great setting.
Summer often means large crowds, significant fire danger due to high temperatures, and long days relaxing by the water to stay cool.
In autumn, things begin to shift, starting with the weather, but many Tahoe-area recreational opportunities change as well.
When planning an October trip to Tahoe, here’s what to consider and what to do as visitor numbers decline and the leaves begin to fall.

Yet the weather is still warm enough for kayaking, snorkeling, boating, and more. In fall, visitor numbers dwindle, leaving more space to stretch out — and shorter lines to wait in.
Not to mention, the water temperatures aren’t entirely unbearable; October temperatures are comparable to June temps in most years. That means swimming can still be on the agenda, at least for the braver holidaymakers.
