As mayor of Barberton, I have made great strides to improve the community. I am running for re-election and ask for your vote during the May 2nd primary election in order to continue the momentum and success of the Magic City. Over the years, we have taken a systematic, proactive approach in addressing the issues facing our community.
My administration has worked diligently to apply for and receive grant funding for projects and programs benefitting the community. The process of obtaining grant funding is selective and competitive, and funding is not guaranteed to be allocated to Barberton. However, starting this year, the city will spend over $21 million on resurfacing or reconstructing our roads. The majority of the funding for this project stems from federal grant dollars awarded to the city. This includes our residential streets as well as main arterial roads throughout the city.
Flooding and storm water mitigation has also been a priority that we’ve been addressing. Storm water mitigation features have been implemented in specific areas of the city in order to alleviate flooding. These projects are on-going as we have several key projects scheduled for this year.

An infrastructure improvement program has been initiated, addressing aging water lines, sanitary sewer lines, and storm water components that will be assessed and improved, benefiting both residents and businesses. In addition, it is critical that we protect our natural resources, including the dam at the city reservoir. Recently, we received exciting news that the city has received more than $9 million in grant funding to improve the safety of the dam and align its functionality more closely with modern standards.
Barberton’s city parks are another vital piece of our community. Maintaining a safe, clean, and attractive park system provides green space for residents with great recreational amenities and programs. This year, investments in our park system continue with upgrades on existing amenities as well as the addition new features like a skate plaza, pickleball, and disc golf.
The Barberton Forward: Neighborhoods First Program continues to address various issues facing our neighborhoods.
