DGPT Announces Limited Concert Series
Cory Wong added as DGPT Music Director
April 12th, 2022: The Disc Golf Pro Tour is excited to announce its first-ever concert series to be held in conjunction with select Elite Series events this season. The series will consist of six concerts that have either been curated by or will feature Grammy-nominated American guitarist and songwriter Cory Wong, who comes on board as the new DGPT Director of Music as the Tour looks to develop more on-site activations for spectators at DGPT events.
Wong, who is widely considered to be an era-defining rhythm guitar player, has performed with multiple groups including funk group Vulfpeck, and released numerous solo albums. Cory is also an avid disc golfer and recently played a round (and some music) alongside James Conrad, Madison Walker, Paige Pierce, Simon Lizotte, Jeremy Koling, and Nate Perkins. You can get to know a bit more about Cory, his music, and his love of disc golf over on the Jomez youtube channel, a leading media partner of the DGPT.
Cory will be performing with his 9 piece band at three events in the concert series – appearing live at The Des Moines Challenge (DMC), Discraft’s Green Mountain Championship (GMC), and the 2022 Tour Championship. A limited amount of tickets for these tournaments and the associated concerts will go on sale Friday, April 22nd. Additionally, Wong is working with the DGPT to set the musical lineups for the OTB Open, the Portland Open, and The Preserve Championship. Spectating passes for those events are already on sale, and concert tickets will become available as add-ons or as separate tickets on May 1, 2022.
“Cory’s love for disc golf has helped create this fantastic opportunity for the DGPT” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO & Tour Director. “He shares the same vision for musical and spectator experiences at DGPT events that we do, and we are excited to work with him going forward to enhance the offerings at our events!”
“I am thrilled to be the musical director of the DGPT,” said Cory Wong. “Disc Golf has been such a big part of my life and the way that I enjoy nature and exercise while I’ve been on tour for the last several years. I hope to see the music and disc golf community come together to enjoy these events as much as I will!”
Tickets for DGPT events and associated concerts will be made available for purchase on the DGPT Eventbrite page.
