DGPT Statement on PDGA Update to Policy on Eligibility for Gender-Based Divisions

December 12th, 2022: The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) has recently been made aware of the update to the Professional Disc Golf Association’s (PDGA) Policy on Eligibility for Gender-Based Divisions, which was announced today along with the details of their medical subcommittee report and PDGA member survey. The PDGA outlines two eligibility requirements in their policy update: one requirement that is applied to PDGA Amateur Majors, Pro Master Majors and all other PDGA events sanctioned at A-Tier level and below and one requirement that is applied to the gender-based FPO division at PDGA Pro Majors (Champions Cup, USWDGC, European Open, and Pro Worlds), events which closely align with the fields of players competing at DGPT events. 

The Disc Golf Pro Tour will implement the same eligibility criteria regarding gender-based divisions approved by the PDGA for PDGA Pro Majors to all DGPT events, including Silver events. The updates to the DGPT policy will be effective January 1, 2023. The key elements of the PDGA policy that will govern the participation of transgender women in the FPO division at DGPT events are listed below:

• Players are only eligible to compete in the gender-based FPO division at PDGA Pro Majors (Champions Cup, USWDGC, European Open, and Pro Worlds) if they began medical transition during Tanner Stage 2 or before age 12, whichever is later. The player must also continuously maintain a total testosterone level in serum below 2.0 nmol/L. 

The Disc Golf Pro Tour is the Official Pro Tour of the PDGA and recognizes the PDGA as the governing body of the sport and the regulatory authority in this matter. DGPT policy will remain aligned with the PDGA’s policy as it applies to gender-based eligibility across the top level of competition in the sport.
