In Brantford, the Rope Factory Event Hall in the Artisans Village on Sherwood Drive is welcoming those who want to try cornhole and disc golf.
Greg Guymer and Mark Aniol started the Brant County Cornhole League last March because they enjoy playing.
“It’s actually the fastest growing sport in the world right now,” said Guymer, noting that there also is a league on Six Nations of the Grand River. “It’s huge. It’s really big in the States.”
While there may be some debate as to just how fast cornhole is growing, there’s no doubt it’s popularity is climbing.
Cornhole is like horseshoes except corn (bean) bags and wooden boxes called cornhole platforms are used in place of pits. Players receive one point for landing their bag on the board – without it bouncing on the ground first – and three points for getting the bag through a small circular hole that has been cut out on the board. A game goes to 21 points.

An ESPN article in 2021 noted that there is an American Cornhole League and registered participants and payouts in tournaments had increased 10 times over five years. The sport has even received regular air time on ESPN and has been mentioned as a possible future Olympic entry.
The Brant league runs every Tuesday and players can simply drop in.
“You don’t have to play or commit every week,” said Guymer
“If you play once every two months, you come every two months. If you can play every week, you come every week.”
Registration is $10.
Players can start arriving at 6:30 p.m., with play beginning at 7 p.m.
There are five boards going at once and food and drinks are available. All level of players are welcome. Players are guaranteed five games per night.
