Owen Andrew Tomsic left this world too soon, at the age of 16 on Oct. 18, 2022, as his life was just beginning to unfold. He was born on May 7, 2006.
Owen attended NDES and Berkshire High School, where his passion for music flourished. He enjoyed being involved in many orchestras and never shied away from a chance to be on stage. His trumpet playing acumen led him to playing taps and the national anthem many times at the Boardwalk on Put-in-Bay, or jumping on stage to play with a band.
He also composed an arrangement for all the sections of the Berkshire Marching Band recently. Owen excelled in everything he was passionate about, including disc golf, bowling and his electric skateboard. His love of Ramen noodles was only rivaled by his high scores in pinball, which will be a lasting reminder of his dedication and perseverance.
Owen was a blinding light that could not be dismissed when he was in your presence. When his heart was open, he was so kind, creative and funny. He fought fiercely and during his dark times we all waited for the light to come back so we could dance in the music and light once more.
Owen had a strong work ethic and most recently worked at Sharon James Cellars, where he was treated like family and he loved working there. He had several other part time jobs, including working at the Island Hardware Store, where he and his family spent weekends in the summer.
Everyone who knew Owen only had the highest compliments to give.
Owen is survived by his parents, Lewis and Kristen (nee Wood) Tomsic; sister, Hayden; maternal grandmother, Katherine Wood; paternal grandparents, Lewis (Debbie) Tomsic and Joan (Jack) Hageman; Uncle Nathan Wood (Joni) and cousins Reese and Emerson; Uncle Ryan Wood (Valerie) and cousins Miranda and Matthew; Aunt Angela Daugherty (Joe) and cousins Taylor, Damon and Mason; Aunt Christine Mahoney (Michael) and cousins Shannon, Gordon and Martina; and dear extended family and friends too many to list.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Don Wood.
Visitation will be at Sly Family Funeral Home in Middlefield on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, from 2-6 p.m., with memorial service following.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Berkshire Tunebackers (http://paypal.me/backthetunes).
