First-Ever Broadcast At Masters Cup To Take Place | PCS Sula Open Will Include Bonus Coverage for Subscribers
May 11th, 2022: While initially considered to be out of the range of possibility for the 2022 season, the Disc Golf Pro Tour can confirm that the Disc Golf Network will be able to provide live coverage of the Santa Cruz Masters Cup’s final round this coming Sunday, May 15th, 2022. This will be the first full-scale live broadcast in the event’s history.
The Masters Cup, a long-time PDGA National Tour event, is hosted at one of the most famous courses on the West Coast – DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course. The course and surrounding area have well-known signal issues that have prevented previous iterations of the tournament from being broadcast live. This year, after significant upgrades to the Disc Golf Network’s streaming infrastructure, and improvements in cellular network coverage, a live broadcast is within reach. Disc Golf Network (DGN) will also be releasing post-production coverage of each round on the Disc Golf Network and the DGPT YouTube channel. Final day live coverage will be available exclusively to DGN subscribers.
The final round of the 2022 Masters Cup will be played on the much more open golf course layout. Initial signal testing is returning results that are towards the lower end of what the Tour considers to be necessary to support a solid broadcast. “We’re cautiously optimistic about the signal strength at the golf course this year,” said Mahmoud Bahrani, DGPT Media Director. “Our new LiveU packs have made it possible for us to feel comfortable moving forward with a final day broadcast.
