Volunteers hope to bring Eagle Ridge Disc Golf to Coshocton County

COSHOCTON — Funds are being sought to help create the first disc golf course in Coshocton County.
It is hoped the Eagle Ridge Disc Golf will be completed by August on land that was part of the former Hilltop Golf Course near Lake Park. The project is all volunteer and is being led by Lainie Brillhart and Don Lightell.
The Professional Disc Golf Association approved course will be free to the public. Lightell said disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. due to the minimal cost to play and develop courses. He also said it can be enjoyed by people of all ages and offers a good workout. He started playing himself a little more than a year ago.

“It’s an inexpensive sport, all you need is three basic discs and a bag to carry them in. Anyone can get started for $25 or $30,” Lightell said. “It’s good recreation and good exercise. You’re outdoors and during the COVID-19 (pandemic) it really took off.”
Lightell said Coshocton County has a long list of outdoor recreational opportunities and a disc golf course could be another. There are plans to hold tournaments at the course, which would bring in people from outside the county. Every county surrounding Coshocton has disc golf courses.
“There’s nothing in this area. There’s an app that shows almost all the courses and if you look on that map, Coshocton is like a desert,” Lightell said. “Everyone I’ve talked to said (a course) would be a really great idea, we could use something like that here.”
