Watch free movies under the stars this summer in Kalamazoo parks

KALAMAZOO, MI- It’s time to grab the popcorn and bug spray as Kalamazoo Parks kicks off the free summer cinema series on Friday, June 10.
Six films will be shown at select parks around the city of Kalamazoo on certain Fridays throughout the summer. While the film screenings start at 7 p.m., people can arrive as early as 6 p.m. when snacks will be available, while supplies last. There will also be music playing as the screen is set up.
Friday’s film, “Shark Tale,” will be at Upjohn Park, located at 1000 Walter St. The event will follow a free carnival event at the park, from 3 to 7 p.m. to kick off summer.

A free disc golf clinic will be taught before each film by members of the Professional Disc Golf Association starting at 6 p.m. Portable discs and baskets will be available for use at the clinic where participants can learn disc golfing skills such as driving, approach throws and putting.
Free face painting will also be available at all screenings, except for the first screening Friday.
The July 22 and Aug. 19 screenings are ‘U Pick the Flick,’ meaning community members can vote in advance on what movie will be shown.
The movie options for the July 22 showing include “Respect,” “King Richard,” “American Underdog” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” Voting closes on Thursday, July 7. The choices for the Aug. 19 showing are “Jungle Cruise,” “Ghostbusters Afterlife,” “Jumanji- Welcome to the Jungle,” and “A House with a Clock in its Walls.” Voting closes for on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
