With over 20 state parks in Mississippi, you can bet there’s always an adventure to be had. Tishomingo State Park is one of the most popular state parks in Mississippi, and for good reason! Since the Natchez Trace Parkway runs through the park, it’s a popular stop off for folks taking this historic scenic drive.

Many of the original structures, like the cabin pictured above, can still be viewed. Don’t worry, more modern cabins have since been constructed.

These rock formations make the park appealing to rock climbers, too!

They vary in difficulty and length, but they’re all under three miles long.

The park was named after Chief Tishomingo, a leader of the Chickasaw Tribe. Archaeologists have discovered that this land was inhabited by early, Paleo Indians as far back as 7000 B.C.

Pictured above is what’s called a Trail Tree. You may have seen them before, but it’s believed that these trees were bent by Native Americans as a trail marker and a way to show safe passage.

The 45-acre lake is a prime spot to do a little fishing.
