REED CITY — Organizers of the first annual Reed City Beer Festival hope the event will bring hundreds to the area.
The festival was first pitched by Deanna Murphy, at Reed City Brewery, about a year ago. It will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Rambadt Park, 700 N. Park St., and will feature an afternoon of food, drink and live entertainment.
Murphy said it was something that came up in conversation several times, even before COVID-19, and several people hoped it could be brought to Reed City eventually.
Derek Lodholtz, a trustee with the Reed City Chamber of Commerce, helped get the rest of the chamber on board, she said.
With the idea coming to fruition, Murphy is excited and nervous about the festival but is confident it’ll work out.
“It’ll be a day of drinking, tasting, eating and listening to music, just a very chill day,” Murphy said.
April 22 is Earth Day, so the event will have a sustainability theme and aims to be eco-friendly, with reusable drink cups.
The event will accommodate 500-750 people and will feature two food vendors, 10-plus craft breweries and wineries, 10-20 arts and crafts vendors, two local bands and a DJ.
Murphy said she and the people at Reed City Brewing are looking to promote some newer, lesser-known breweries to hopefully give people a chance to try their brews.
Additionally, Murphy said the main value of the festival is the ability for people to try close to a dozen different brewery’s beers all in one place, without needing to drive from one place to another.
“I think it’s a great thing for people who just want to get out and try something without making a drive. And then if they find something they like, they can go and visit the brewery,” Murphy said.
One of the food vendors will be the local organization Crossroads Recreation Connection. They will be selling walking tacos to raise money for the Pocket Park project in Reed City. The other vendor will be Big Red’s BBQ food truck.
There will be several wristbands available for purchase. The general admission wristband is $35 which includes six drink tokens, a 4oz reusable cup and parking.
The VIP wristband will be $55 and will include 10 drink tokens, a reusable cup, a 2023 souvenir mug, parking and the opportunity…
