Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin will hold its first open house at its future home, 62 S. Grove Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
Side Street directors and staff will be on hand to give tours, talk about future plans and answer questions. This event is free and open to the public.
The Reva & David Logan Foundation purchased the riverfront location and is renting it to Side Street for $12 per year. The nonprofit arts organization will save about $50,000 per year, Side Street directors say.

The deadline to submit nominations for the 2022 Elgin Image Awards has been extended to Friday, Oct. 14.
Award categories include individuals who has contributed to improving Elgin’s image; an exceptional volunteer; a game-changing project; an organization or business that’s worked to improve Elgin’s image; a green initiative or business; excellence in building equity; and youth service project.
Winners will be announced Nov. 1.
The awards are given out by the Enhancing Elgin Committee of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce. Because the awards were put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, nominations can be for a person, organization or a worthy project between 2020 and now.

The Dundee Township Park District is holding a pop-up party from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 15, in Hickory Hill Park, 770 Navajo Drive, Carpentersville.
Activities will include games, sports, disc golf and a drawstring backpack giveaway to the first 200 children who attend.
The park is located a quarter mile west of Route 62 on the south side of Longmeadow Parkway.

The 13th annual Comic Book Mania convention, featuring cosplayers from Windy City Ghostbusters and League of Enchantment Chicago, will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 S. Grove Ave., Elgin.
All Comic Book Mania visitors will receive a free comic book courtesy of Modern Age Comics. Those who dress like a superhero will receive a prize.
A superhero tattoo station will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Artists and writers will be on hand to talk about and showcase their art in the Artist Alley. Keith’s Komix and Modern Age Comics will be selling comics.
