Mendocino College is hosting a 50th-anniversary celebration with a Community Fair on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the college campus, 1000 Hensley Creek Road, Ukiah.

The college provided the following information about the event, which is free and open to the public.

The Mendocino College Community Fair promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family with a range of activities planned. The event celebrates the college’s commitment to supporting and engaging with the local community. Attendees can look forward to live performances, a variety of free kids’ activities, workshops, and more. Anyone can ‘Be an Eagle for a Day’ with batting practice with the baseball team at 11 a.m., a basketball shoot around with the basketball team at 12:30 p.m., and a volleyball ‘All Comers’ game with the volleyball team at 2 p.m.

Discover our disc golf course with an Intro to Disc Golf game at 11:30 a.m., and a Putting Competition at 1 p.m. Free yoga and Pilates classes will be offered at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and tours of the college gardens will take place at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. A small car show will highlight the auto department, and activities and demos with faculty and students will engage visitors of all ages. Catch live performances by the Aztec dancers, Ballet Folklorico, SPACE dancers, Instilling Goodness & Developing Virtue school, Point Arena Manchester Pomo dancers, and a preview of the musical Once opening at the college the same weekend.

“This event is a celebration of our 50th anniversary, and we are excited to share this milestone with the community,” said Tim Karas, Superintendent/President of Mendocino College. “Our goal is to showcase the many wonderful resources and programs we have available to students and community members and to thank the community for its ongoing support over the last 50 years. We want everyone to feel welcome on our campus.”

Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the campus and learn more about the wide range of programs available at Mendocino College, while having fun with the whole family.

“We hope that our community members will join us in celebrating this significant milestone,” said Karas. “Mendocino College has been an integral part of the community for the past 50 years, and we look forward to continuing to serve the community for many years to come.”

• If you’re interested in aviation, Upper Macungie is right by the Lehigh Valley International Airport. The airport serves the greater Lehigh Valley area and offers flights to several major cities in the US.
• Upper Macungie has a rich agricultural heritage and visitors can still see evidence of this today. The Fogelsville Dam is a popular spot for fishing and the surrounding farmland is home to several produce stands and farmers markets.
• Upper Macungie is located near several popular tourist destinations, including Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom and the Lehigh Valley Zoo. These spots offer a variety of family-friendly activities, making them a great choice for visitors with kids.
• Upper Macungie is home to the 13-acre Grange Park, a popular destination for community events and recreation. The park features a playground, picnic areas, sports fields and a pavilion that can be rented for events. During the summer months, the park hosts outdoor movies, concerts and other fun activities.
• Upper Macungie is located in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country and visitors can learn more about this unique culture at the Kutztown Folk Festival. This annual festival, located down the road in Kutztown, features traditional crafts, food and music, as well as demonstrations of Pennsylvania Dutch life.

A few things to know:

• Cedar Park was once known as Running Brushy, named after a nearby creek that had many wildflowers growing along its banks. And Leander was once known as Bagdad, named after a settler who came from Bagdad, Iraq. Visitors can learn more about the city’s past at the Leanderthal Lady Site, a prehistoric archeological site.

• Leander is the home of Crystal Falls Golf Club, which features 18 holes of championship golf, as well as a clubhouse with a pro shop and restaurant. The course offers stunning views of the Hill Country and is a popular spot for golfers of all skill levels.
• Cedar Park is just a short drive from Lake Travis, a popular destination for boating, fishing and swimming. Visitors can also enjoy scenic drives along the lake, as well as hiking trails and picnicking areas. And for those looking for a bit of adventure, Lake Travis Zipline Adventures offers guided zipline tours that take visitors soaring over the lake and through the trees.
• Cedar Park houses Veterans Memorial Park, which honors veterans from all branches of the U.S. military. The park features a variety of memorials, including a bronze statue of a soldier and a memorial wall with the names of fallen soldiers.
• Cedar Park is known for its vibrant local food scene, with a variety of restaurants offering everything from Texas-style barbecue to international cuisine. Visitors can also explore the city’s breweries and wineries, which offer tastings and tours of their facilities.
• The Devine Lake Park in Leander features a fishing lake, playgrounds, picnic areas and a splash pad. The park also has a trail system that winds through wooded areas and around the lake, offering beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

A few things to know:

• South Whitehall was once home to Dorney Park’s first rides and attractions. Opened in 1884, Dorney Park started out as a fish hatchery before adding a picnic grove and various rides to entertain guests. Today, Dorney Park is a popular amusement park that draws visitors from all over.
• South Whitehall has a rich history that dates back to the 1700s; the area was first settled by Nicholas Kern. Many of these historic sites can still be seen today, including the historic Jordan Lutheran church, which was built in 1744 and is the oldest church in the township.
• South Whitehall is a great place to shop and dine. The Tilghman Square Shopping Center is home to a variety of stores and restaurants, including Thai Origin, Zio’s Pizza and Grocery Outlet. You can also find local favorites like Zio’s Pizza, which serves up delicious Italian dishes and Duck Donuts, which offers made-to-order donuts.
• South Whitehall is a community that values art and culture. The Allentown Art Museum, located just a short drive away, features a variety of exhibits and events throughout the year, including art classes, lectures and concerts. The nearby Civic Theatre of Allentown is also a great place to catch a play or movie and the Lehigh Valley Arts Council hosts numerous events and performances throughout the year.
• If you’re a sports fan, you might be interested to know that South Whitehall is the birthplace of former NFL player and Super Bowl champion Andre Reed. Reed, who grew up in the township, played for the Buffalo Bills and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
• South Whitehall is a great place for beer lovers. The township near several local breweries, including Yergey Brewing, Fegley’s Brew Works and Hop Hill Brewing Company. These breweries offer a wide range of craft beers and often host live music and other events.

• Shelby is a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Stony Creek Metropark covers over 4,400 acres and offers hiking trails, biking paths, a beach and camping facilities. If you’re looking to get away from the city and enjoy nature, this is the perfect place to do so.
• If you’re a fan of craft beer, you’ll want to check out Sherwood Brewing Company. They have a rotating selection of over 20 beers on tap, including seasonal and limited edition brews. Grab a pint, sit back and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of this local brewery.
• Shelby is home to the Packard Proving Grounds Historic Site, where luxury automobiles were tested and developed from 1927 to 1958. Today, the site is open to the public for tours, events and weddings. Take a step back in time and explore the history of the Packard Motor Car Company.
• Utica hosts an annual festival called Gasoline Alley, celebrating the city’s automotive heritage. The festival features classic cars, live music, food vendors and a craft show. Bring the family and enjoy a day of fun and nostalgia.
